Antoine Plamondon
The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

1846 (restoration in 1986-87)
Oil on canvas
Church of the Assumption, Windsor, Ontario, Canada (Gift of Philippe Panet)

The label provided in the church points out that Plamondon has followed Murillo's painting of circa 1670. The chief difference is the treatment of Mary's arms, which here are crossed over the breast and hold a book or tablet. Other additions include the blue vest and the mirror-like object below the cloud on which Mary stands.
